Meet the Jeep XJ stroker turbo built to murder dunes, not drivetrains. Instant low-down grunt, stupid-fast spool, and gearing that claws you up faces other rigs back away from.
Built for the Kalahari. Tuned for full-send. Limited production.
This isn’t a high-rev dyno queen. It’s a fat-stroke, fast-spool XJ built to punch out torque where dunes are won – right off idle to mid-range. That means less bogging, less wear on the automatic transmission, and more controlled wheel speed on steep, loose faces.
Result: you stay in the meat of the power while keeping the Jeep planted, predictable, and hungry for the next face.
*Final numbers depend on fuel, altitude, and config – but this is what we tune for:
No dyno drama. Just real-world torque where it matters – in 2nd and 3rd, climbing sand walls with room to correct.
Power is useless if the chassis, cooling, and drivetrain can’t keep up. The Dune King XJ is set up as a complete dune package – from approach angle to diff breathers.
Matched gearing, lockers where they count, and a driveline built to live at high load in soft sand – not just crawl rocks once a month.
Brand new radiator, fan package, oil cooling and charge-air cooling spec’d to hold temp in deep summer dune runs – not just on the dyno.
Suspension travel, Bilstein damping and bump control designed for sand speed, big faces and sketchy landings – not just mall crawling flex shots.
From long red Kalahari faces to tight bowl entries, this XJ is built to be driven hard with confidence. Hit play, turn it up, and imagine your line.

Every build is slightly different, but this is the backbone spec that makes the Dune King feel like cheating in the sand and gravel roads.
Lift and travel tuned specifically for dune speed and landings
Bilstein Shocks perfect for sand dunes chop and repeated hits
Optional Reinforced control points and steering components
Wheel and tyre package biased for float and bite on loose sand
Owners keep saying the same thing: the Dune King feels unfair. Predictable power, stupid traction, and far less drama when the sand gets deep and sketchy.
“First trip out I was hitting lines I used to avoid. It just grips and goes – no bog, no panic revving.”
– Ruan, Upington
“The torque is stupid. 2nd and 3rd in the bowls, barely touching the throttle. It just keeps pulling.”
– Andre, Atlantis Dunes
“We ran it all weekend in 40°C. Temps stayed happy, no drama. That’s what sold me.”
– Morné, Kalahari
We only take on a small number of builds at a time to keep quality stupidly high. Drop your details, tell us about your dunes, and we’ll come back with options, timelines and pricing.
No spam. No pressure. Just a straight dune-focused build conversation.
Tell us where you drive, how you drive, and what you’re chasing. We’ll reply personally.
If you don’t see your question here, drop it in the form above and we’ll get you a straight answer.
Both options are possible depending on availability and your budget. Most customers either bring us a solid base XJ for a full Kalahari Plaas Ferrari conversion, or we help source one locally and build from there. Use the form to tell us what you’re starting with.
Yes. We spec boost, timing and cooling based on where you drive, what fuel you have access to, and how hot it gets. A coastal weekend warrior tune looks different from a full-time Kalahari setup – and we treat it that way.
This isn’t a fragile race motor. We build with parts and systems you can actually maintain and service. Wherever possible we stick to proven Jeep, aftermarket and easily available components, and we document what’s been done so repairs aren’t a guessing game.
Plenty of owners do. Remember though: this is built first as a dune weapon – firmer suspension, more noise, more attitude. If you want a soft daily, we’ll help you choose the right compromises up front.
It depends on current queue and parts pipeline, but most full builds run in the 8–16 week range from the time we lock spec and get the vehicle on site. We’ll give you a realistic ETA before you commit to anything.
